So you're a big star in Korea....
At work, we started making fun of pop stars and actors that are only famous in Korea, and then I realized that this would actually be better - and possibly more lucrative - than being famous only in Canada.
Argument calculus:South Korea
population: 47,817,000
GDP: $20,590 /per person
Canada
population: 32,601,000
GDP: $34,273
Well, OK, maybe not as lucrative, but still just as lame... Not to mention, it's quite possible that if I were at home, I would not be making my own per-annum share of Canada's GDP, which is also quite lame.
------
P.S. Ben Mulroney needs an entire post dedicated to his notoriety as Canada's worst celebrity... Anybody interested? Have any ideas?

I wish I had some really cruel, insulting things to say about Ben Mulroney, but I never watch his shows and know virtually nothing about him. I don't have a good reason to hate the guy, yet I do. That is his talent.

My sister thinks he's hot. I died a little inside when I heard this.

Haha, good point Don.
I know nothing about him either, except that he's the host of TWO successful TV shows and his father is the former prime minister... yet I hate him immensely.
I do see enough of him on television to know that he's a complete douschebag though. His voice, his hair. That naive grin he has all the time, as if he knows how fortunate he is, and doesn't know how fortunate he is, all at the same time.
JP, I'm sorry to hear about your sister. She sounds like a real lost cause.

Oh oh oh. If were bashing the kids of PMs, may i suggest the Trudeau kids???
I find Alexandre Trudeau much more irriating that Mulroney's bland inoffesnive bantering designed to stir the passions of the nation's whites.
Alexandre Trudeau has that smug "concerned left wing asshole" look on his face 24-7- senstiive yet serious. I bet he'd bore you with stories about how they do things in Europe did i mention i've been to Europe? everyone should go to Europe at least once its so civilized a sense of history, culture and social services and welfare or about how he fed dying AIDS orphans in Addis Abbah and felt the life and tears come running out oh it was so moving its just a devasting plague george bush doesnt care about black people
"oh dang man my dad was pm can i head up your charity and send me to baghdad instead of an actual experienced reporter? i can make a half-assed documentary about it. oh its so easy to become an editor of a news maagzine. Wow all this from a philosophy BA."
Much more irritating than Ben Mulroney.
Then again im an asshole who honks my car horn at pregnant women and old persons still in the crosswalk when the light changes.

Totally with you, AM. They're probably worse, but less visible, thank God.
Didn't one of the Trudeau kids go down in an avalanche?
No comment, but anyone who knows me would know where this is going.

I'd rather see rich and privileged children of former PMs spending their time feeding children in Africa and heading up charities than hosting crap Canadian knockoffs of American Idol.
So what if his work is half-assed? Least he's trying. What the hell have you done for the world lately?
By Grace, at 11:30 AM
I like how there's an obvious difference between Simon's and Grace's comments and yet, I believe, they are essentially saying the same thing.

A very talented monkey, the organ plays In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.
By D-String, at 12:54 PM
Sorry, no worship for self-righteous blow hards who will never work hard for a day of their life because their fathers were over-rated prime ministers.
Sure, I'm not going to work hard for a day of my life either, but at least I'm not bragging about being friends with Castro when I was a kid and assuming that I know everything about the world while producing horrid idealistic screeds about how I know how to run the world better than everyone else.
Ben Mulroney is starting to sound better by the minute!
By Timothy Holden, at 5:31 PM
This conversation falls on deaf ears...deaf because I keep honkin my horn.

dang man, are you people the type who have perminant scowls of disapproval over everything? Do you like, you know, things?
Alls i said was that Trudeau v. 2.0 seems like an insufferable twat who'd bore you to suicide with stories. Is that so bad.

Seacrest and Bono are irrelevant comparisons because they weren't borne or a famous name... Both worked from the ground up, to my knowledge, accumulating a grand cult of personality around themselves that I really can't complain about.
As for Bono, I'm not a huge fan of the political side. It's nice tha the spreads awareness, but these guys usually do more harm than good when they open their mouths. They tend to fuel the opposite side of the argument much more than they inspire anything positive on their end... (that is to say, a lot of people around the world are like me! Bitter old men who hate everyone more successful than them.)
A better comparison to Mulroney and Trudea's children would be... hmm, John Kerr's daughters, possibly... or, hmm, are there any celeb children of politicians? Maybe America is lucky.

AM: A Journey into Reason, or whatever.
I'm on your side of the argument but YOU AND I are the ones with permanent scowls... just thought I'd point it out.
By Timothy Holden, at 9:09 PM
And thusly the knee jerk dosey-do is complete.
Take a bow all

Glad I bored Simon to death again.
Mulroney Jr. actually has a law degree and I just think he's a complete loser for taking the route he did... He certainly wouldn't have made it without his name and family contacts, but if he were to be a shrewd businessman, he would be following in the footsteps of the greatest name in Canadian business today. (seriously. Mulroney is on every board of directors tha tmatters, isn't he?)
Trudeau's kids are just loser slackers who only get attention as loser slackers because of their name.
But yeah, of course this has to do with who they were born to... I don't think it makes them worthy of the attention they get, judging their accomplishments.
(Let's remember that Seacrest actually has a warm personality and quick wit... Mulroney has his last name.)
By Timothy Holden, at 5:17 PM
Haha, I know... I should also look into his background. If he comes from an elite Hollywood family, everything I said was wrong.
All I know is that he's in his mid-30's and he's the host of the largest Top 40 show and the host of the most successful show on television IN AMERICA.
And that's not bad.
