Lame weekend

Aside from being a very boring person, I've been having trouble logging in recently, so I haven't been able to say the following:

1) It's cold in the city, or at least getting colder, and it's a little bit charming that people think I'm nuts for walking around without a coat, and it's not really that cold at all.

2) I'm probably going to Vietnam for my one week off at Christmas.

3) I was right with this prediction to Daniella a few months ago: "One third of all the teachers in Korea are writing bad novels." Here's proof.

4) I'm applying to teacher's colleges in Canada, in case that's what I want to do when I get home. (And assuming I can get in.)

Is this a good idea? Please discuss.

  • And so it is... Tim has become a teacher. Good for you, man.

  • Well, I have to get in first. And even if I do, I'll probably find something to complain about.

Being in your 20's is lame. I want retire. Now.

  • JP, what are you doing these days?

I heard you quit your semi-job and you're never on msn anymore.

Are you mad because I called you mean names on the facebook?

  • Nah. No mad JP. I just hate msn.

Yes, from one semi-job to another. Had a little too much soul to remain one of the mayor's cronies, so I've spent my time indulging in my other passion, smoking. And volunteer stuff, blah blah...

I need a coffee. Hey - if you tell me what time to be on msn, I may just break my strike against it in order to catch up with my Timmy.

  • Tim to properlly be an expat novelist you need to spend your time in a debauched and drunken haze a la "Under The Volcano" while engaging in salacious acts with the Korean version of Anais Nin.

  • Better idea:
Go work in Fort McMurray writing a hillarious novel about losing limbs to drilling machinery and crushing wildlife with giant machinery, and testosterone and beer and stuff.

  • I've changed my mind. Don't be a teacher.

  • Tim what happended to your "3Cs"* Plan?

  • To be honest, looking into teacher's colleges has been the least inspiring thing I've ever done.

The environment and curriculum looks like it would drive me more crazy than j-school did, and beyond that, the people in the pictures look more boring than me.

Also, I'm a little nervous about even a new school like UOIT producing 150 teaching graduates each year.... Where do all these people work? Fort McMurray?

And bored EngineerX, I'd love to live in the middle of nowhere Canada and write bad novels... If only I could turn it into a living that didn't include constant paycheques from the government or my parents...

  • You could never afford to live in fort mcmurrary on a teachers salary ($100 000 for a room in a double wide trailer A ROOM)

Maybe should jsut pretend you're a Newfie and work in the oil patch. Forget teachers college

PS: You are on course to become the most over educated person i know

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 5:22 PM

  • Haha, I'm aware of the over-education thing, but that's hardly the case.

In my high school (a bad high school), about 1/3rd of the teachers had M.A.'s.

Andy, since you don't have one yourself, you still hold its value in high regard. Too high.

It's all about the hard work and the who-you-know, not the education, and I shouldn't have to remind you people how hard I like to work, and how many important people I know.

(But I did see Moby on the street once... He was small.)

  • Tim I think you would be a GREAT teacher. I have friends who went to teacher's college and then went up north to work in 1-room schoolhouses on rez's and make CRAZY $$, have their room and board pay for and 2 flights home per year (1 @ Xmas and 1 for summer). If you can put up with the isolation, you could pay off your debt in <5 yrs. Something to think about.... Since you'll have Asia experience you could come work in Hong Couver too!

Will miss you at Xmas. Will make a gingerbread/sugar cookie of you to sit at the table for dinner - one with long flowing blonde locks of hair! :P Hope you enjoy Vietnam! Hear the food is EXCELLENT! Your cuz.
PS. Thanks for the FYIs about those barbar poles! :)
